MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE ON PEOPLE SMUGGLING, TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS AND TRANSNATIONAL CRIME

Nusa Dua, Bali, 6-7 August 2018

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Directorate General of International Security and Disarmament held the Seventh Bali Process Ministerial Conference on People Smuggling, Trafficking in Persons and Related Transnational Crime (BPMC VII) at Bali International Convention Center. Representatives of 45 member countries and three international organizations, namely the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), participated in this conference. The Bali Process conference was aimed at discussing issues related to people smuggling, trafficking and other transnational crimes. The Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E Retno Marsudi during a meeting with the Immigration Minister of New Zealand has conveyed an appreciation for supporting the mechanisms of the Bali Process, in order to overcome human trafficking crimes. In addition, this conference was also expected to be a forum for parties to discuss joint efforts to tackle people smuggling and trafficking in the region.
