INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING 2018

The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking has been commemorated by the Indonesian National Narcotics Board (BNN) at the National Narcotics Rehabilitation Center in Lido, Bogor. Officially opened by the Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, H.E. Wiranto, accompanied by the Chief of National Anti-Narcotics Board, Mr. Heru Winarko. During his opening remark, H.E. Wiranto, drew attention to the daily loss of dozens of lives to drug addiction in Indonesia and said the country's "narcotics emergency" may be taken advantage of in case of proxy wars. "Every day, we lose 30 productive-age citizens to narcotics," he said. He also said that Indonesia still needs to step up its antinarcotics efforts, both in law enforcement and rehabilitation programs. This event was also attended by the Minister of Home Affairs, H.E. Tjahjo Kumolo, the Former Chief of Indonesian National Narcotics Board, Mr. Budi Waseso and the Chairman of Perindo, Mr. Hary Tanoesoedibjo. Attended by 1000 participants from government officials as well as representatives of various stakeholder groups, students, NGOs and artists, the theme for this year's campaign was “Listen First - Listening to children and youths is the first step to help them grow healthy and safe”.
